Comma Butterfly

This is a stylised painting of a comma butterfly on a buddleia flowerhead. I started it while working with a class of primary school children who were looking at the work of William Morris, so I decided to think more about pattern around the comma, particularly how to render the buddleia flowers. I used the dried grasses as a framing device, and unlike my usual backgrounds, I made this one completely flat, to make it more like Arts and Craft Movement wall decoration.
